Original scores for feature films and documentaries, from intimate and restrained storytelling to large-scale orchestral and hybrid music.
From orchestral film music and dramatic underscore to intimate chamber writing, electronic textures and concert works, explore a selection of Nathan’s music.
Every film asks something different of its score.
Sometimes music needs to carry a theme across an entire story. Sometimes its role is almost invisible: shaping tension, supporting a performance or allowing a moment to breathe.
I approach each project by first understanding the director’s vision, the emotional architecture of the film and the role music should play within it. From there, the musical language can be built around the story—whether that means orchestra, electronics, piano, solo instruments, unusual textures or a combination of them.
Explore Feature Film ScoringThe objective isn’t simply to put music under a picture. It’s to create a score that feels inseparable from the film.
A finished score reveals only part of the process. These case studies explore how musical ideas were developed around the specific storytelling, production and recording needs of each film.

Explore the Case StudyAn orchestral documentary score designed to move between architecture, family, international settings and larger themes of American ambition.
Explore the Case StudyFilm scoring is both a creative relationship and a production process.
I work closely with directors to establish the musical identity of the film, determine where the score should—and should not—be present, develop themes and textures, and move approved music through production, recording and final delivery.
A strong process gives the director room to explore creatively while keeping the music department organized, responsive and moving toward the same finish line as the film.
Nathan Pangrazio is an Emmy Award-winning film composer whose background combines composition, classical music and a lifelong interest in visual storytelling.
He studied Composition and Vocal Performance at Indiana University and has written music across feature films, documentaries and other narrative projects. His scoring work ranges from intimate piano and solo-instrument writing to orchestral, choral, electronic and hybrid production.
His approach is grounded in a simple principle: serve the picture without surrendering musical depth.
Outside of film composition, Nathan co-founded Angeles Academy of Music with his wife, Behafarid Pangrazio. The experience of building and leading a large music organization has reinforced many of the same disciplines he brings to film scoring: communication, organization, managing creative teams, and delivering complex work on schedule.
If you’re developing a feature film, documentary or other narrative project and would like to discuss what music could contribute to it, I’d be glad to hear about the film.
